I was looking for a fun idea for soccer snacks & rolled across this post. Let me say “I LOVED IT!” That was well written & my favorite part was the end when you & the kids had that wonderful time together just you 3. And I bet that was the best $40 snack you ever spent!

It’s really weird reading this–I can totally remember being in similar situations as a kid and how unfair it all felt at the time…but now I can also 100% see your side of it and that you’re right. The fact that I don’t just think you’re a big meanie-pants makes me feel old.

This brought tears for your son. I also had that hero worship for my father who left when I was four or five. I waited for years for that backpacking trip we were going to take, and that trip to Disneyland he promised me in post cards. Though I didn’t see him that often when I was young and was let down many times, I never dropped that need for him.

When I was a teenager I went to live with him and we finally got to know each other. I was lucky that he was a good person. He wasn’t the best father, and even today I wished he was more of one — its hard to live up to being a hero. But I am very grateful that we had and have a relationship. I didn’t have anyone else in my life that I felt I could put on that pedestal, even though I had a step-dad who was caring. Maybe I was saving that space for my dad.

I found your page because I was looking for some snack ideas for my daughters soccer game. I am a first time soccer mom this year and not really sure what I’m supposed to be doing. Wow! I remember your haircut!! I didn’t know how it came about, though…funny how things affect us individually.
